Hugel Inc., a leading global medical aesthetics company, said on Thursday it won the Health and Welfare Minister’s Prize at the ceremony of Future Happiness Award in Seoul on November 20.

For the prize awarded to those dedicated to public safety and health, Hugel was highly recognized for its contribution to public health, fulfilling four standards: medical expertise and capabilities; performance to improve healthcare quality; its ripple effect; and vision and plan.

With the slogan “Power That Makes You Shine,” Hugel outstood with its vigorous efforts to improve the quality of public life through research and development and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities for the underprivileged.

Hugel has been striving for R&D on botulinum toxin, the company’s flagship product with indication areas spanning aesthetics and therapeutics, while spurring efforts to expand the product applications and diversify formulations.

Its toxin Botulax, globally known as Letybo, has five indications such as eyelid spasm, glabellar lines, upper limb muscle spasticity after stroke, dynamic equinus foot deformity of children with cerebral palsy, and crow's feet. In addition, the company is conducting clinical trials to expand indications of overactive bladder and cervical dystonia, while developing lidocaine-containing liquid toxin to minimize the pain during medical procedures.

For its long-term innovation, the company is developing botulinum toxin type E, the next-generation toxin known as a therapeutic agent for relieving pain after surgery, treating itching and healing wounds.

Hugel also spares no effort in its CSR activities, including support for marginalized women, donation of briquettes to families in energy poverty and sponsoring universities and local governments in Gangwon Province, where the company is headquartered.

“We are very honored to be recognized for our contribution to public health as a leading medical aesthetics company in South Korea. Hugel will strengthen its R&D and do its utmost for people’s healthier lives,” said a Hugel official.
